On June 16, 2026, the Canada Revenue Agency announced two procedural changes to how Disability Tax Credit applications are submitted. Both changes are now in effect or taking effect within weeks. If you have a DTC application in progress — or if you have been considering applying — understanding these changes will help you avoid delays and ensure your application is processed correctly.
Change 1: The 'Submit Documents' Portal No Longer Accepts New DTC Applications (July 14, 2026)
Effective July 14, 2026, the CRA's Submit Documents section inside My Account can no longer be used to submit new Disability Tax Credit applications. This is the channel that many applicants have used in recent years to upload a completed T2201 form directly to the CRA.

If you have already submitted a DTC application and it is currently under review, this change does not affect your existing application. It applies only to new submissions going forward.
Change 2: Old T2201 Forms Will Be Rejected After September 8, 2026
The second change affects paper submissions specifically. As of September 8, 2026, the CRA will no longer accept any T2201 form that was printed before 2023. Only the 2023 or later version of the T2201 will be valid for paper applications.

The current version of the T2201 is always available at canada.ca. If you are using the CRA's online DTC application portal, the form is automatically the latest version — no manual check is required.
Why Is the CRA Making These Changes?
The CRA has stated that these changes are intended to streamline the DTC application process and reduce processing delays. The dedicated online portal allows the CRA to route applications more efficiently and reduces the volume of incorrectly submitted documents that arrive through the general Submit Documents channel. The form version requirement ensures that all applications use the most current eligibility criteria and medical assessment questions.

If you have been considering a DTC application but have not yet started, these changes are a useful prompt to act now. The July 14 deadline for the Submit Documents channel has already passed. If you were planning to use that pathway, you will need to use the online portal or mail your application instead.
